Its a Boy- Mommy version

But more exciting than actually finding out the sex of the baby, was seeing the baby under the ultrasound. He -we can officially give him a pronoun now, rather than the indescript "it"- was being quite the showman under the limelight. First thing we saw was one arm cutely over the head, either in sleeping or deep thinking mode. Manish immediately commented that he sleeps like me :) Next he did a little yoga pose with both his legs crossed. Since we asked the doctor to know what was down there and she couldn't see, she wiggled my tummy a little for some activity, and surely, his legs straightened up, so that we'd know whether to paint the room blue or pink! Right after that we saw one arm flailing a little, like he was saying hello to his parents from the inside. The whole thing really drew us to the fact that this is for real. Now that the baby has form and sex, and arms and legs and ribs and what not, this is for real! We're excited as hell, and that brings us much closer to feeling like the proud parents-to-be. Hot topics of discussion in the coming weeks will be names, and who we think he'll look like when he comes out. Oh and the nursery? That was cleverly painted yellow last summer, so that we could conveniently accent it blue or pink as the case may be, so we're almost set in that department as well!

It's a BOY!

I kind of gave that away, (hint, hint : There is a change in the blog layout :))

The ultrasound was on April 30. It was the most "un-describable" experience in my life yet. Part of the reason why an ultrasound is done around 18 weeks into the pregnancy is to ensure that the baby is developing well and that there are no abnormalities. The technician pointed out everything on the screen - hands, feet, eye socket, spine - the baby even moved in response to external stimuli. I was wide eyed, glued to the ultrasound screen during the entire duration :) Everyone has their preferences, but as a parent, you just hope all the time that whatever the sex of the baby, it should be healthy. I can certainly claim, that this has been the most moving experience in my life.

It also paved the way for us to start preparing for the baby's arrival - clothes, names, nursery set up.. etc etc..

Below are ultrasound scans. In the first one, you can notice the outline of the face. You can see the nose and the chin and also the outline of the head.

The second one, is a little more difficult to read, but if you let your imagination run wild :), you can see the eye sockets top-bottom orientation.

The "Sac"

The "sac" (big concentric circles) as the doctor describes "it".

One of the first ultrasounds we had was to ensure that the "sac" was in the uterus.

The picture is the ultrasound done at 6 weeks. The small circular mass inside the sac is the embryo. When the ultrasound was done you could see a rapid flickering within the embryo, that was the heartbeat. Yes, this is how life starts.

My Biggest Complaint About The Expression “We’re Pregnant”

I could not think of a better way to start the blog, than by referring to this hillarious article, about the expression, "We" are pregnant, read on :)

http://mybiggestcomplaint.com/were-pregnant/567/

"The expression, “we’re pregnant” has become firmly entrenched in the American vernacular. I can’t quite figure out if people who use it are confused about the proper use of pronouns, or are misinformed about how humans procreate, or are trying to include men in the pregnancy process for whatever reasons. I suspect it is a case of the latter, but let’s review.".....
